When was the First Sale?

I’ve heard some pushback on my assumption that the first dispensary sale was on December 29, 2022, and I think it is valid. The first OCM authorized dispensary sale happened on that day, but legal weed sales started in New York a few months before that.

According to section 222.15 of the Penal Code (Page 88 of the MRTA), the homegrow regs are due “no later than eighteen months following the first authorized retail sale of adult-use cannabis products to a cannabis consumer.” They could have said ‘first OCM authorized’ but they didn’t, because that isn’t what they meant.

There were Tribe-Authorized retail sales of adult use cannabis products to a cannabis consumer on April 15, 2022. Seventeen and a half months ago.

How time flies. Turns out the homegrow regs are due in like 2 weeks! We’d better alert the OCM.

I’m not worried. The regs are already written - they just need to vote to apply them to homegrow. Should be easy to get them done by October 15.
