Patient Matching is tricky!

We were discussing matching patients with caregivers today on our weekly homegrow call and one of our astute members (thank you J C-C) raised a couple of interesting issues:

What is the division of labor?

Many growers end up with a lot more than they actually need and are often looking for places to donate their extra cannabis. However, even though they like growing it, They don’t necessarily want to trim it, dry it and package it up. Some Would be fine with this, but some patients are medically incapable of taking care of their own trimming. So we’re gonna have to match patients based on their ability to process the Cannabis that they receive with a Grower who will get them to that spot.

Second, and maybe the bigger issue, is that a lot of growers are not going to be interested in registering in the state database as is required by the program. We are a charitable cannabis nonprofit and operate with the expectation that we will be audited or investigated one day, so we can’t run a matching program that’s not in complete compliance with the state regulations. So any matching that we do is going to require people to register with the Office or Cannabis Management. I certainly understand that growers are reluctant to tell the government that they grow cannabis!

We’ll be seeking information from the OCM to get reassurance that those records are kept private. So stay tuned!
